La Libertad
After climbing the Acatenango it was time for a change of scenery. This change came with the change of country! El Salvador is comparably small to the other central American
countries, and it’s likewise expansive. The border crossing was due to my spanish speaking company a smooth transmission. Playa El Tunco is a little surf village around 270km from
Antigua and our first destination.
Windows down - music up! The salty breeze filled my home on wheels and my mind with good memories! Automatically a permanent smile settled on my face. El Tunco is the typical surf
spot you wish for. Restaurants with the choice of european or local food, hostels with the usual suspects and so on. We checked in La Sombra Hostel. A really cozy hostel with a
tiny pool. Shortly after arrival I met the neighbours. Ester and Devon would be great company and we would have a great welcoming party. Yeah I forgot to mention in my earlier
posts. It became a ritual of mine to get really, really pissed on the first night in every new country I got!
What can I tell you more? We spend two or three nights here not doing much. The weather wasn't perfect neither for surf nor sunbathing. Due to the fact that ‘Dev’ and ‘Es’ headed
down south I offered them to ride along on the bed.
We drove to El Cuco. Once on sight, we checked out a hostel on the beach. The owners where super rude and the weather was a disaster. This lead us to the conclusion to make a
shift towards the city of San Miguel for the night. From there we planed to escape towards Nicaragua the next day. The rain was poring down on the way to San Miguel but we
eventually made it to this very unwelcoming city. The hotel we booked in was completely deserted but at least a dry shelter for the night. The receptionist advised us not to get
out of the hotel after dawn due to the risk of getting mugged. We didn't intend to anyway. I knew that the upcoming day would be a challenge! We would have to cross four borders
between three countries! This is a hassle just for a common traveler but the paperwork, inspections and other seemingly made up difficulties when you travel by car where to hit us
tomorrow hard.
We started the day early and we all knew this day will be a wast of time but a necessity to get into Nicaragua. After the Salvadorian-Honduran border we where in Honduras (ok the
first and last country I didn't get pissed on arrival)! We drove the 140km to the next border with Nicaragua and went through the entire paperwork chaos again. Thanks to Nadia
with her spanish skills and especially her temper, we definitely saved hours! So here once more thanks a lot for putting up with these lazy and corrupt officials.
An hour later we finally arrived in Leon, Nicaragua!
PS: A quick comment to the total lack of pictures; I honestly wasn't in the mood to take more pictures of beaches that look all the same, short time and in general no interesting
subjects to capture!
